CAS-ual Fridays CFC37

Good day! i hope you are all having a nice day.  It's currently drizzling here in Singapore, although it was sunny in the morning and early afternoon.  The rainy weather is fit for sleeptime, and so while my little ones are asleep, am grabbing this free pocket of time to post for CAS-ual Fridays: CFC37.  Below is the given sketch:

...and here's  my card:

The black panel and banner are actually Washi tapes :)  My first time to use them in a card (i think) and they are so easy to use.  Have attempted to make a pleated flower with it, but well...it remains to be an attempt (a.k.a. disaster) hahaha! Have matted instead the wooden button on a Flower Fusion die-cut.

Supplies:  Cardstock - Vanilla, Black (American Crafts); patterned paper - Pebbles; Black Washi Tape - American Crafts; wooden button - Basic Grey; twine - American Crafts; stamp - Papertrey Ink "Mega Mixed Messages;" die - Papertrey Ink "Flower Fusion #10;" ink - Versafine Onyx Black; adhesives - AC This & That, Helmar.

Thank you for dropping by!

Another Layout for PWP Sketch #5

Hello, lovely readers!  Here's another layout using Pages with Papertrey Sketch #5 by Leigh Penner.

This LO is about my son's love for penguin stuffed toys.  HERE is the first page i made about it; at that time, he only has 1 penguin doll which he named Pingu (after the JimJam show character).  Now he has more :)

Title:  Penguin Pals

Some close-ups:

Description of close-ups:

Top photo:
Have used a Simple Circle die-cut in between the two rows of photos and just adhered and stamped some penguins :)

Bottom Left:
Have used the Tag Sale #3 die cuts for the journaling.  Can you see the stamped penguin in the cluster? :)

Bottom Right:
Have pop-dotted the penguins and the flags (from Banner Builder die) on the title.  There are actually toothpicks behind the flags and i could have made them higher so they could have been more visible.  This was a miscalculation on my part - i worked upward from the rows of penguins.  I should've adhered the word "penguin" first after the rows, and the last should've been the flags.  Lesson learned :)

I admit the colors are not great :)  When i think of it now why i chose the colors, it comes down to me wanting to use up some papers that i don't normally use.  It's one of those projects that ended with something very different from the original plan hahaha!  Still, i get to document something that's part of my boy's life and that's what's important :)

Supplies:  Cardstock - AC; patterned papers - My Mind's Eye (Abbey Road, Six by Six Blink of an Eye, Believe); stamps - Papertrey Ink Winter Penguin;  dies - Papertrey Ink (Winter Penguin, Tag Sale #3, Banner Builder, Block Alphabet, Simple Circles); punch - Martha Stewart; ink - Versafine Onyx Black, Memento London Fog; adhesives - AC This and That, Helmar, Zig; badges, pearls.

Thank you for visiting!

Another card for JUGS Color Challenge 120

Am back with my second card for Just Us Girls Color Challenge #120. Here's their pallette:

Have always wanted to do a tic-tac-toe kind of card :)

This is my first time to emboss on an actual card.  My sister has gifted me with a heat tool for Christmas.  Have been hesitant to purchase one because (1) it's a heating tool and i've got a couple of very curious little boys around, (2) i don't have a crafting room/area of my own where i could peacefully leave the heat tool, and (3) it intimidates me because i don't know how to use it.  Ok, several things/techniques "intimidate" me in crafting, but i find that it is only so until i use it, hands-on. From then on, it's experiment time!

And so...have placed the heart stamps on the block, stamped with Versamark, poured embossing powder, turned on the heat tool and...Yaaay!...a card! :)  i think i need more practice to know when the heat is enough and so on. Yes, experiment time :)

Am glad it turned pretty and fun-looking.

Color breakdown:
Red - card base, images;
Pink - twine;
White - image panel.

Supplies:  Cardstock - Bazzill, AC; stamps - Papertrey Ink "Heart Prints;" embossing ink - Versamark; embossing powder - AC Zing; twine - My Mind's Eye; bling - Queen&Co.; adhesive - Helmar.

Thank you for stopping by!

CAS-ual Fridays CFC36 - Penguin Suit

Hello there!  Gong Xi Fa Cai!  It's the second day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and here in Singapore, most stores are still closed for the holiday.  Tomorrow, offices and stores will once again be open.  My kids will resume their classes on Thursday.

Today's card is for CAS-ual Fridays CFC#36 - Penguin Suit

It's my first time to join, although i've been visiting the site for sometime now.  Am glad i was able to snatch some time to make a card for this challenge.

Have stamped the background and i was delighted it turned out pretty :)  However, it took me several attempts to place the sentiments, trying this and that, and finally settled on the above. I wanted to add some small pearls, but i ran out of white/black ones; also wanted some bling, but only black and white are permitted and am only left with Christmas-colored ones :)

Am glad i got the chance to take the plunge joining CAS-ual Fridays challenge.  It was for me a bit intimidating, seeing all the beautiful creations in the site week after week, but there's a first time for everything :)

Oh, by the way, i learned only from their post that there's a Penguin Awareness Day (20 January).  My eldest son loves penguins and all things penguin, hence he was interested when i told him about the date :)

Supplies:  Cardstock - Bazzill, AC; stamps - Flourishes "Lace Edges", Papertrey Ink "Mega Mixed Messages;" ink - Versafine Onyx Black, PTI Fresh Snow.

Thanks for your visit!

CAS Cards Set with PTI Bloom Builders 3

Today, am posting some CAS note cards i made with the Bloom Builders #3 die collection from Papertrey Ink.  Have been holding off with purchasing this die but i couldn't resist anymore :)

The blooms have been cut with paper scraps from when i made some gratitude journals and am so glad i could use these little bits of paper.  Turns out i made 6 of them, enough to make a card set.  Pleasant! :)

Supplies:  Cardstock - AC, Bazzill; patterned papers - My Mind's Eye Six by Six; stamps - PTI Flower Fusion #11; dies - PTI (Bloom Builders #3, Happy Day, Tag Sale #5); ink - Versafine Onyx Black; twine, brad - My Mind's Eye; buttons - PTI, MME; adhesives - Claudine Helmuth studio, Helmar, Tombow.

Thank you for taking the time to visit!

For One-Layer Wednesday 75

Hello out there!

Today, am joining for the first time in this week's One-Layer Wednesday challenge, which i've just very recently discovered. A couple of days ago :)

Before i came up with my entry, i had difficulty stamping a clear image and had to try several times.  I've just inked up (finally!) some Pink Paislee stamps i got last year.  I tried stamping first on scrap paper bits before i stamped on my card base.  Unfortunately, i couldn't get a crisp image.  Have used Ranger TH Distress Ink Aged Mahogany, which is the color i initially wanted with this masculine card.  I think i need to "prime" myself some more into the stamping groove LOL!  I've learned, though, that with doing a one-layer card, i could not easily "hide" my mistakes, as opposed to a multi-layered card where i could patch up what i don't want seen.  Unless, i guess, i could color over it (i don't color well).  Oh, the (exciting) things i need to learn! Would love to experiment (if i had more time) a lot of techniques.

Long story short, i switched inks for this card to Memento.  Here's my newbie attempt:

Have kept to a single-color ink, but maybe next time, i would stamp the sentiment with a different color.  Wanted to try several inks on several cardstocks and ended up doing 3 more cards.  Pleasant!

Here's the sentiment inside, same ink used as the front:

Supply list:  Cardstocks - Bazzill, AC; stamps - Pink Paislee (Daily Junque), Papertrey Ink (Birthday Basics); ink - Memento (Blue Danube, London Fog).

Thank you again for visiting!

For Pages with Papertrey Sketch #5

Hello there!  Am posting today my first scrapbook layout for 2012 - yaaaay! :)  The last page i made was back in September 2011.  I somehow got "overwhelmed" with doing layouts at the time and leaned to doing smaller scale projects.  Turned out i got so much Christmas crafts and cards done than i originally planned, and it was a pleasing outcome.

This layout is for Pages with Papertrey on the PTI forum, hosted by Leigh Penner.  I am a fan of her clean and simple style, on her cards and on her scrapbook layouts.  Here's a little secret: The reason i got "overwhelmed" doing pages was that everywhere i looked (at the time), it seemed that layouts were so full of layers - piles of papers and lots of embellishments - and i couldn't seem to do this style and made me feel "out of the loop."  I kept reminding myself, though, that doing pages is not for others, but for preserving one's own memories.  Thank goodness i became aware of CAS! :)

Here's the link to Leigh's sketch: Pages with Papertrey: Sketch #5.  It's my first time to join too :)

Title:  Off {two} School

Have rotated the sketch to it's side.  I tried to match the patterned paper with the boy's uniform.  I am a color/pattern-challenged girl (card/layout color challenges scare me) and am so grateful the PPs i used came from a kit so i don't have to "suffer" trying to coordinate stuff LOL!

The page is about my sons' first day together in school.  It's actually my youngest one's 3rd day in school here as the older kids go in a couple of days later.  This year is my youngest's first year in pre-school and it just makes my heart swell seeing these photos.

Here are a few close-ups:
Description: (1) stamped "BROTHERS" on the yellow PP; (2) a pocket behind the main photo; (3) Tiny Tags on the journalling area, with stamped sentiments on a couple of them; (4) first page of the insert; (5) second page of the insert.

Supply list:  Cardstock - Bazzill; patterned papers - Studio Calico, Echo Park, Sassafrass Lass; stamps - Papertrey Ink (PTI) Tiny Tags II; dies - PTI Tiny Tags, Alphabet Blocks; buttons - PTI; twine - My Mind's Eye; washi tape - American Crafts; ink - Memento London Fog; adhesives - Helmar, Claudine Helmuth Studio, Ranger Wonder Tape.

Thank you for taking time to visit!

Card for Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #47

Happy New Year, dear bloggers!  How have your holidays been?

Have been busy a bit since my last post:  have gone back home with my little family for the Christmas season.  When we got back it was to prepare for the New Year celebrations and also to prepare our youngest son who's to be in his first year in pre-school.  All i can say is we are thankful that his elder brother is already there in school and so the younger one took only a short while to adjust.  Big sigh :)

But on to today's post.  This is my first time to participate in PTI's MIM, although i've watched their videos for quite a while now.  My son (5yo) watches it with me.  A little story while i was putting my card together.  He walked over to me, looked at what i am doing and asked, "Mommy, is that for Papertrey Make It Monday?" LOL! i was so surprised! I guess he figured it was Sunday night and he kind of put things together, the next day being Monday, so... Then he asked if he could view again the MIM videos.  And so, when i was almost done with my card, i let him (and his curious little brother) to play with my stamp and ink.  I guess they were watching me do stuff before, because they tap-tap-tap the stamp on the ink pad and didn't like to just press the stamp heavily on the pad :)

Here's the card.  This is for Papertrey Ink's "Make It Monday #47: A la Carte" and i chose to do "Make It Monday #43: Ribbon Pleating."

Supplies:  Bazzill cardstock; Prima patterned papers; Papertrey Ink die (Bloom Builders 3) and stamp (Flower Fusion #11); Carolina's ribbon; Ranger Liquid Pearls; Basic Grey brad; TH Distress Ink and Versafine inks.

I would've wanted to do some more cards with the other techniques, but i decided to have the little guys settled first in school before i can take care of "my stuff."  Hopefully i can participate in the coming challenges too.

Thanks for taking time to drop by!

Here's wishing you the best blessings in 2012!
